Disappointment, a choice no one willingly orders off of life’s menu. Satisfaction is what we order, the fulfillment of expectations and the complete performance of our eager anticipations. However, disappointment is inevitable in the ebb and flow of this fallen world. Sometimes the cry of our heart is simply stated as “how hard can it be?”. We didn’t seek perfection, we merely asked for desired results in a feasible time frame. Yet, we find ourselves embracing disappointment as an undesirable friend. 

Zechariah, the prophet, gives a remedy for disappointment that commands our attention with a force like a shout.  Return! Return to your fortress! Return to the only secure, fortified and impenetrable place in this world. Return to hope! Do not return to a place of the past or a request on your wish list. Return to the Promised One that scripture defines as “The Blessed Hope”. 

Our experiences have taught us that times will change, governments will topple, and this world will continually alter its allegiances. Our faith has convinced us that He is the only one that will never disappoint us. Our written word of God declares, without excuse, that anyone who puts his or her hope in Him will never be ashamed.

Let us return to our Christ, He will always be…
