I am honored to have my husband, Pastor Hank Davis, as guest writer today…
Lately, one of my favorite devotions has been focused on a man named
Gideon. We locate Gideon in Judges 6 threshing wheat in a wine vat, hiding
from the enemy. Wine represents joy and there hasn’t been any since the
death of Joshua. God came to Him and proclaimed His character, "Gideon
you are a mighty man of valor.” God knew Gideon would rise to the
opportunity offered. Three fleeces later, God downsized Gideon's army from
30,000 to 300 men. Armed with trumpets (praise), torches (fire), and vases
(the anointing), God wins with the help of Gideon. Sounds strange, doesn’t
it? Instead of winning with God’s help, God has already purposed that the
Almighty would win. It was decided in a garden on a cross at a resurrection.
My opinion, stop the threshing when He wants you to enjoy the blessings.
Stop the hiding, when He has already determined you can do all things
through Him. Stop fleecing, when He knows the back from the front, the end
to the beginning, the victory after the doubt. It’s not about you – it’s
about the kingdom. God never loses, and He doesn’t choose quitters or
losers. He sees the greatness in you, along with the frailty. That’s why He
declared, "the plans I have for you are good plans”. You can’t mess
it up because He won’t give up on you. So wash your face, comb your hair,
and look in the mirror and declare, "I am a mighty man, or a mighty
woman, of valor.”
Why? Because Judges 6:34 reveals, "God clothed Gideon with Himself!”
Not ‘Jesus with skin on’; but you, yes you, with God on. It doesn’t get any
better than that. Be blessed today and be a blessing to others!
