“For in Christ, all the fullness of
Deity dwells in bodily form, and in Him, you have been made complete.”
Colossians 2:9,10
Insecurity is always protected by a lie. That lie is, that to be successful
we have to become something that we are not. One day, a group of religious
leaders sought out John the Baptist with one goal in mind, to discover who
he claimed to be. They began their inquiry with, “John, are you the
Messiah?”
What
a perfect set-up for John to tell a lie and build a false image in order to
impress the leaders of the temple. But John’s security in God had taught him
who he was and who he was not. With conviction he responded, “I am not the
Christ.” Then they asked, “Are you Elijah, the Prophet?” Again, without
reservation, he said, “I am not.” With a hint of frustration, they narrowed
their investigation to, “Then who are you?” With a God-given assurance He
answered, “I am a voice sent to prepare the way for the Lord.”
Immeasurable are the benefits for those who walk in the knowledge of their
completion in Him. For one sovereign evening on the banks of the Jordan, it
was John who was the first one to recognize and announce Jesus as the “Lamb
of God who takes away the sins of the world”. These are the kind of moments
that come to those who know who they are.
“The only way we can ever get through to the
truth is by finding out what we are not.” - Barry Long
